You be YOU!!!

As I said in my you tube video, we need to be ourselves, even in our journals.  It's fun and beneficial to try other peoples techniques but it can start to take away from our own creativity if we copy other peoples work.  What we want is to find our own STYLE.
I had a couple of weeks where I was depressed and had convinced myself I didn't know what I was doing.  I had been watching a very dynamic lady on you tube and I was comparing myself to her...bad idea.  We should never compare ourselves to other people!
We are all individuals and ALL have something different to contribute!
I went through my journal and did some remedial work....here are the pics of my fresh new pages all ready to be decorated by ME!!

I cut the corners of some pages and applied washi to all the edges....
On the wavy edges I used DecoAt Metallic Lusters in Brilliant Turquoise, Cosmic Blue, Fab Fuschia, Radiant Red and Majestic Purple!
I also used for all the pages a wash using DecoArt media white gesso and media spray inks in shimmering turquoise,  primary cyan, primary magenta , yellow, white shimmer and green.
A little bit of brown packing paper and some ephemera and my pages are ready to go!
Have a Beautiful day my Beautiful friends!

Journal spine tutorial

While I was working on my new spring journal cover I thought I'd share with you how I do the spine.  I love this method because it is strong and nothing lifts, peels or curls.

I started out with a file folder cover, covered with brown packing paper and designer card stock.
I then cut a piece of linen (you can use almost any fabric) and applied it to the spine using DecoArt media Heavy Gel Medium.
Before it dries, sprinkle embossing powder over the gel medium.
Clean up the edges with a cotton swab.
Using a heat tool, melt the embossing powder.  I found my powder a bit too green so I used DecoArt media Fluid Acrylic in Cobalt Teal Hue and dry brushed over the embossed spine. You can see that the spine is still very flexible.
I inserted 4 eyelets and now I can thread my elastic through!
The journal kit I used was from Ephemeras Vintage Garden.  Now I just need to decorate!  I love the brown packing paper on the inside cover.
I LOVE this journal!  It will contain whimsical ideas for art, ideas for blog posts and memories of this coming spring!  I hope you find this tutorial useful.  Please check out my you tube channel and subscribe!  Have a Beautiful Day!
